A one day session on Legal Awareness Programme on POCSO and Child Marriage Act was conductedon 22nd April 2024 in the College Auditorium. The students were briefed about the Protection of Children from Sexual offences (POCSO) and thechild marriage effects. Sr. Lilly Pushpa, an active social worker was the resource person. Two separate sessions for 1st and 2nd PUC wereconducted in the college auditorium. A separate session was also conducted for the teachers in the college library. Sr. Lilly Pushpa is an active Social Worker, and she was also a member of Child Welfare Committee (Advocate in Children’s Court) for Udupi. She was a Professor teaching MSW at Milagres College, Udupi. She interacted with more than 500 students and helped them in carving their success path. The session started with the detailed description of the POCSO act. She explained the role and expected behaviour of each member. She also spoke about the punishments for those who found guilty under the act the persons who try to hide the information pertaining to any abuse. Further, she explained the behavioural changes that come in children after an abuse. She supported the same by telling about facts and shared few cases to help everyone understand the act. In the end, she explained the role of schools, teachers and support staff in providing safe environment to the children. It was a very enriching session and was hugely beneficial for all the participants.
